The Young Turks: September 27, 2013

Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, Jimmy Dore, and John Iadarola hosting from YouTube Space LA. Cenk returns from his trip to NYC. Many Republicans are continuing their criticism of Senator Ted Cruz’s tactics to try to obstruct the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, including Senator Bob Corker or Tennessee. Ted Cruz gives his first interview since his marthon speech in the senate on Hanity. Ted Cruz very well may be the smuggest bastard in America. Senator Harry Reid meekly calls out Senator Ted Cruz and other Tea Partyers on the Senate floor. Senator Ted Cruz is a “grade-A demagogue” and is a dangerous, dangerous man. He will most likely have siginificant success and a lot of damage could very well be inflicted on the county by the time his is through. Now that Cenk has returned, let the Power Panel commence! President Obama believes the Republican opposition will eventually come around in support of the ACA once its success becomes apparent. Reagan spoke out against the implementation of Medicare in 1961, sounding very similar to today’s Tea Partyers. He feared a “socialist takeover”. Obama predicts that Republicans will no longer refer to the ACA as “Obamacare” in a couple years when it becomes more popular. Statistics show that many Americans don’t know what “Obamacare” is and even fewer know what the law is when it is referred to as the Affordable Care Act. Why are younger people generally more progressive? Wendy Davis a real filibusterer of fame sends out tweets suggesting she will run for Governor of Texas. She has a shot at winning the race depending on the Republican nominee.

Ana joins Cenk, Jimmy, and Ben for the second hour. The Senate Inteligence Committee is investigating the NSA’s domestic surveillance program and the FISA court. The collection and storage of metadata by the NSA is far from harmless and should not be minimized by politicians. There is evidence the program has been abused by participants. Of course! Jonathan Denver, a Dodgers fan attending a game, was stabbed to death by a Giants fan in San Francisco. The murderer hadn’t even attend the game. Everyone on the panel except Ben is bored by baseball. Ben is starting to be bored by NFL football. Adults just shouldn’t fight in America as long as guns and other weapons could be involved. Cenk reads #TYTLive tweets. Kanye gives an interview trying to bring awareness to classism and self-hate, but still comes across as arrogant. Ana finds his egoism refreshing, but also thinks it is just a mask for a deeper insecurity. Jimmy Kimmel made a sketch with children mocking his BBC interview and catches flak for ignorance. Self-promotion seems to be a necessity for entertainers in modern times. Kanye retaliates against Kimmel via twitter. The chairman of Barilla is refusing to put a gay couple in any of its ads. Cenk gives member shout outs.
