The Young Turks: October 25, 2013

Earthquake off the coast of Japan near Fukushima. Fortunately there was no tsunami, but radiation leak fears from the spent fuel rods are an ongoing concern. Senator Harry Reid says he will not seek to make a “grand bargain” with insane and unreasonable Republicans in a radio interview in Nevada. Senator Reid also regrets the concessions Democrats have already made to Republicans over the last budget showdown and refuses to make the same mistake again. He added that the prospect of a grand bargain “happy talk”, seeming to totally rule out any possibility of an agreement. The Senator went on to exclude reforms to Social Security and Medicare in this round of negotiations. However, he left future reforms to those social programs on the table for future talks, but not without serious reciprocation from Republicans. At a Tea Party rally in Texas earlier this week, Senator Ted Cruz joked that the same people behind the Nigerian email scams were behind the new Obamacare website. As a result, Cruz has landed in hot water with the Nigerian ambassador who wrote a scathing rebuttal to the Senator’s remarks. While riding on an Amtrak train, phone calls with former NSA chief, Gen. Michael Hayden, were overheard by a fellow passenger who Tweeted insights about the conversations. The eavesdropper later took a picture with Hayden himself which he also tweeted. After a priceless interview with Aasif Mandvi on The Daily Show in which Don Yelton called black people and college students lazy, the North Carolina county precinct GOP chair had to resign. In a catfight between Piers Morgan and Sarah Palin, the Tea Party darling sent Piers a snarky refusal to appear on Morgan’s show along with a creepy picture of a dead bear after a hunt. A neighbor of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder trademarks the name “Washington Bravehearts” apparently with the hope of profiting off of a future change in the NFL team’s name. Snyder denied a connection with the neighbor’s trademark application. The owner also denied a plan to change of the team’s name altogether.  Help TYT Build a new studio by supporting our Indiegogo Campaign!  CLICK here: http://igg.me/at/TYTNetwork/.  Thank you!  #IamTYT
