The Young Turks: October 13, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS. A healthcare worker in the Dallas hospital that treated the Ebola patient from Liberia has contracted the virus. The NIH has said that if their budget wasn’t cut over and over by our elected officials, we probably would’ve had a vaccine for ebola by now. Some cities are not celebrating Columbus Day, but Indigenous People’s Day instead. This move is pissing off Italians that think it is basically Italian Heritage Day. The CEO of Microsoft spoke at a conference and told a woman that women shouldn’t ask for a raise at their jobs, but hope it will happen the way its supposed to, because its good karma. He later apologized. The “Snappening” has just happened. 90K photos of people on Snapchat have been leaked, despite the entire basis of the app. Snapchat is blaming the entire problem on 3rd party apps that they don’t condone using. Another bouncy house has flown away at a kids’ birthday party. One kid is in critical condition. Cenk hosts TYT. He revisits the Friday Power Panel discussion about Sam Harris’ comments on Islam. Cenk clarifies to angry members of the audience and has confirmed his take on what Harris said. Researchers studied Congressional reactions to constituents’ letters to them asking for help on how to sign up to vote. When the names sounded White vs. Latino, the GOP elected officials’ reactions were far less responsive to Latinos. Wisconsin Gov Scott Walker is in a tough race for his job, partially due to his long, blatant list of accepting anti-Women’s opinions. A Women’s Rights group hit him hard with an ad of a female doctor thats sick of him getting in between her and her patients. Video of Walker’s response ad where he uses a well-known Lib term about allowing the final decision about abortion to be between a woman and her doctor is shown. While Republicans are still defending the Pentagon’s ridiculous budget and eviscerating any mention of cutting it, the Def Dept spent $486 million on transport planes that didn't work. In response, they sold 16 of the planes as scrap, at .16/lb, retaining only $32,000 from the scrap after a $486 million bill. The Vatican is discussing a new policy on gays. Their new document allows Catholics to welcome gay people into their community without believing it destroys their belief system. One Vatican expert called the opinion an earthquake to the system. This is seen as a re-education of Catholic followers that have been programmed. After the SCOTUS rejected cases that allowed gay marriage, the Republican Party are split on how to respond. Videos on the issue: Mike Huckabee threatens to leave the Party and tells them to grow a spine to fight gay rights. On the other hand, on Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace and a pro gay rights guest teamed up on Tony Perkins, who is staying strong against equal rights. Wallace challenged him over what a gay couple will effectively do to harm his family. Research on polls that have accepted gay rights more and more showed that respondents changed their negative answer to positive when they were told they were being questioned by a gay person. Cenk remembers the rabid way Fox & Friends opposed Obama implementing Czars in his Admin. Video of Steve Doocy calling for Obama to install an Ebola Czar just today is played. A Wolf-PAC announcement is made.
