The Young Turks: October 23, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS. After the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that the official autopsy of Michael Brown matched the police story, the examiner that conducted it said they took her findings out of context, and that it doesn’t necessarily mean Brown went after Wilson’s gun. The Justice Dept is also upset that these biased findings were leaked that could taint public opinion. The Washington Post also reported that many Black witnesses have stories that back Darren Wilson, but they’re too afraid of the community to come forward and give their accounts. A CHP officer pulled over a woman for drunk driving, asked for her phone and password, then sent several of her scantily clad or partially nude pictures to himself. When she later found out this happened, he was reported and busted. In response, the police dropped her DUI charges. The 2nd healthcare worker that contracted ebola has been deemed clear of the virus. Cenk points out that Republicans haven’t been touting this success story as wonderful after they bashed the CDC and Obama when the 2 cases came about. Anderson Cooper was approached by a Canadian journalist that wanted to take a picture with him while reporting on the Ottawa shooting. He responded with frustration over the multiple requests, so the other journalist took to Twitter to bash Cooper for rejecting him. The Canadian reporter was later fired. Texas history books have continued to push whitewashed versions of historical moments in America. One tactic tries to get students to question the Separation of Church & State. The books also redefine the institution of slavery and its impact on the Civil War. They also pushed capitalism as the only viable economic system. A Nebraska school district is allowing students to take school pictures with their guns, as long as it's done tastefully. Some have a problem with it, but Ana thinks it may be ok. Cenk completely disagrees, and says it looks like the Taliban. Halloween companies pull in billions of dollars from candy & costume sales. $350 million is used just on costumes for their pets. Mother’s Day and Valentines Day actually pull in double the amount that Halloween does. Ana hates Halloween because there’s too much pressure to dress up. The Wall St. Journal published Karl Rove’s piece that begged billionaires make one more money push to help the GOP win the upcoming election, resulting in 21 billionaires giving $20 million.
